HISTORY OF DOMAINE: Bernard Amiot and his wife, Claudette, created this domaine in 1962. Acquiring a series of small parcels over time. The Amiots have assembled 5.5 hectares of vineyards all within the confines of the village of Chambolle Musigny. Approximately 20,000 to 30,000 bottles of wine are produced annually. Their son, Frederique, has now joined them as the next generation of vigneron.
COMPOSITION OF DOMAINE: About 2.5 hectares are planted in Chambolle Musigny Village with the holdings being situated in the "lieu-dits" of Foucheres, Echeseaux, Crois, Fremieres, Derriere Le Four, and Combottes. In certain years, a separate cuvee of "Aux Echeseaux" is bottled. The remaining wine is assembled and bottled as Chambolle Musigny. The Amiots have small holdings in the 1er Cru of Bourniques, Cras, Chabiot, and Grand Mont which they assemble to produce a Chambolle 1er Cru. In other 1er Cru appellations, the Amiots own a 1/2 hectare of Chatelots and a 1/3 hectare of Charmes, each of which is always bottled separately.
METHOD OF VINIFICATION: After a manual harvest, the cuvaison lasts for approximately 12 to 15 days. Malolactic fermentation occurs in barrel. The wines are aged in small barrel for 20 to 24 months and then are bottled with a light fining and no filtration.
Stylistically, Bernard Amiot renders wines of a classic Chambolle type: finesse and elegance being the prime characteristics. Somewhat light in color, the wines are nevertheless very concentrated with exceptional nuance to the flavors and intense floral notes to the nose. Although delicate in appearance, the wines of Bernard Amiot age gracefully over a long period of time.
