DOMAINE ROBERT MICHEL

2004 VINTAGE
ST. JOSEPH ROUGE “LE BLOIS DES BLACHES”
CORNAS “CUVÉE DES COTEAUX
Robert Michel will be
retiring after the elevage of the wines of 2006 so the series
of wines from 2004 represent the first of the final trio of
vintages from this master of Cornas. Michel is a modest man
who makes wines of incomparable breed. His wines have an honored
place in our personal cellar. The St. Joseph Rouge “Blois
des Blaches” 2004 is simply the best wine he has made
from this tiny plot of land north of Cornas. It has a tenacity
of flavor and strength of character that is hard to find in
the extended appellation of St. Joseph. It has an ebullient
fruit with that touch of wild berry and game that is a classic
indicator of Syrah from this region. The Cornas “Cuvée
des Coteaux” presents the more gentle side of this appellation
with a seductive fruit and controlled tannins. This wine will
convince you of the joys to be found from the top producers
in the 2004 vintage. We will offer the great wine of this domaine,
the Cornas “La Geynale”, during the autumn to give
it additional time in the bottle before it gets devoured.
