HISTORY OF DOMAINE: From the seaside to the mountains we move as we transfer our attention to the Alpine passes of the Valtellina in Lombardy close to the Italian-Swiss frontier. As most of you know, we have an abiding love for the Nebbiolo grape and here, in the region around the city of Sondrio, the Chiavanesca (as the Nebbiolo is known in the Valtellina) finds a perfect climate to express its majesty. Contrary to most of the well-known producers of the various wines of Valtellina, the wines of the Triacca family are all estate-bottled. We present a quartet of wines to introduce you to this estate that has done experimental, cutting-edge work in the vineyards to maximize the expression of terroir. From the Sassella 2001 to the Riserva La Gatta 1999 on to the "Prestigio" 2001 and concluding with the formidable Sforzato "San Domenico" 2001, we are convinced that you will find the Triacca wines to perfectly complement our trio of exceptional Piedmontese growers (Ferrando, Brovia, DeForville) who also produce the ultimate in Nebbiolo.
