Passed a lovely moment with Jean-Francois Fillastre at Domaine Jaugaret this morning. He was in good spirits despite the fact that both his ’08 and ’09 have been rejected by the tasting panel that gives the OK to have the appellation Saint Jullien for the wine.
The wine was putatively rejected due to an excess of volatile acidity (which is certainly present – but not to an alarming degree for sure). We may deal with the problem by modifying the label to read simply:
JAUGARET Fillastre, Proprietaire
This could prove to be a defining moment for traditional and “natural” wines.
