A Mountain Red

Posted on Posted in Cave du Vieux-Moulin, Occasional Thoughts

The exuberant reds from our growers in the Valais scream out their mountain heritage. Drinking the 2011 Cornalin from Romain Papilloud tonight makes the point brilliantly. A wine of vibrant, deep color, its bouquet brings the Alpine atmosphere directly to the table like a fresh, cool breeze rustling through the low bushes of berry and broom. At first, it is fruity in the manner of cru Beaujolais; then, it stretches to show a muscular structure totally natural in form. Lithe, lively, joyous – a spirited rendering of the Alpine atmosphere.
