We received a note from Laurent Lignier today, detailing the extent of the damage from a severe hailstorm last week. Both Morey and Gevrey were hit, with particular severity in Clos de la Roche, Charmes Chambertin and Gevrey 1er Cru “Aux Combottes”. The premier crus of Chaffots, Riotte and the Vieilles Vignes holdings were also impacted, but to a lesser extent. Fortunately, heat and wind after the storm dried out the affected bunches and they expect the remaining fruit to continue to ripen. We’ll stay tuned for any additional detail from Lignier or others in the region.
